I picked up the Ideazon Limited Edition Keyset for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures at Gamestop today. Please see my previous review for the actual Ideazon Zboard Gaming Keyboard.
Unpacking the keyset:
Unpacked and installed on the Zboard. Contents include the keyset, documentation, and a card with the in-game item key.
Obtaining your Enruned Kosalan Ring:
Here is a closer look at the registration card for The Enruned Kosalan Ring:
After receiving your code, go to http://register.ageofconan.com/ and enter it in to receive your in-game item, which you can then obtain by using the /claim command.
Using the Keyset:
Please see my prior review of the Zboard in general, because using this keyset for usual typing is just freaking horrible. Plain as that. And, this keyset has the same problems with being just a crappy keyboard for typing and horribly innacurate with key presses (which I’m sure translates to in-game problems as well).
As far as using within Age of Conan, I have just a few short days to wait until I receive my new notebook that will actually allow me to play the game. However, I am rapidly losing patience with using the keyboard in general (and have since unplugged it from my notebook); so I doubt I will wait much longer to return it.
However, let me point out the few nice things about it:
- It looks kinda cool. Yeah, it’s that bad that I have to mention first that it “looks kinda cool”.
- All the default keybindings are marked. I actually do like this, however, I’m sure this is annoying to those who like to re-map the entire keyboard.
- On the right hand side (where the generic AoC graphic is placed), there is a set of mapped keys for things like “Quests”, “Friends”, “Inventory”, “Character”, “Spellbook”, “Feats”, “Say”, “Shout”, “Tell”, “Reply”, “Invite”, “Kick”. I do think that is a good idea, but I wonder if this gets screwed up if you change the usual key-bindings in game.
- There are two other buttons on the right hand side, which toggle the emote bars #1 and #2. Then, up along the top of the keyboard, the Function keys are marked with the appropriate emotes. This is probably best feature I could tell you about.
BOTTOM LINE:
- Doesn’t do anything to sway the fact that the Zboard is a horrible keyboard in my opinion.
- I am a collector geek, so I do like the AoC exclusivity, and the in-game item; but I am not thinking it’s really worth the mere $19.99
BOTTOM-BOTTOM LINE: It’s a Loser
I will very likely be returning this (and the Zboard) tomorrow.
