Simple (and free!) Tool for Checking CPU, RAM, and Motherboard Information

I found a very cool application that checks info regarding your installed CPU, RAM, and Mobo. This is free, small, and simple.

It is called CPU-Z, which you can download from FileHippo here, or go their website at CPUID. Here are screenshots using version 1.45 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61:

The first tab, “CPU” lists all the main info regarding your CPU specs. A sweet feature is the listing of the code name for your CPU, I can never keep those straight…

Here, we see the second tab “Cache”. I’m not certain, but I think there are two L1 caches listed since this is a dual core CPU? And then they must share a common L2 cache.

The third tab “Mainboard”, shows info regarding the motherboard. This may not be too exciting since this is a notebook, but I am glad to see that this uses PCI-E for graphics; I didn’t really know that… It is also nice that this will tell you your chipset if you don’t know.

The fourth tab “Memory”, shows info gathered from your RAM. One thing I’d like to see here is the number of available RAM slots, and how they are filled (i.e. I think this MoBo has two slots and I have 2×1024 chips installed).

This tab is titled “SPD”, I really don’t know what this is at the moment…

Lastly, is the ubiquitous “About” tab. When you click on the validation, you can upload your specs and get a code. Mine posted to http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=367350.

Check out my other post to see an app that does something similar to check your GPU.
