I found a very cool application that checks info regarding your installed GPU and it works with ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards. This is free, small, and simple; created by the folks who make ATI Tool which I used to use for overclocking back when ATI made decent GPUs.
It is called GPU-Z, which you can download from FileHippo here, or go their website at CPUID. Here are screenshots using version 0.2.2 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61:
When you run the executable, GPU-Z does a quick check for program updates
The first tab, “Graphics Card” give you the core information that it interrogates from your GPU. What I had specifically been looking for was if my GPU supported DX10 and what Sharder Model, in addition I was a little confused if my card had the standard 128MB or if it had been upgraded to the maximum. All this information (and more) is easily checked out here.
You will notice a little camera icon on each tab, when clicking on this, you can bring up a dialog box which allows you to save an image of the current tab in .gif format. Alternatively, you can upload a copy of this same image to the techpowerup.com website, which you can then link to. I think that’s a pretty good idea, IMO!
This second tab, “Sensors”, whill show a scrolling graph of the GPU core and memory clock speed, as well as temperature. It doesn’t show well here because these numbers did not fluctuate, but the read bar is in real time and scrolls from left to right with the amplitude varying depending on the value.
Lastly, the validation tab… I entered in my name and email address and then I got a validation code which linked to my stats: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/fep9p/. Kinda cool, I suspect the authors collect this data for some purpose and that is why this service is offered.
Check my other post to see a similar app that checks info from your CPU, RAM, and motherboard.
